The Fred Whitton Challenge - an epic 112mile tour through the highlights of the Lake District.
This painting depicts the near completion of the hardest climb of the whole route - Hardknott Pass. At 33% gradient at its steepest point it is so hard to climb fresh, never mind after the 90 miles that have come before it.
The lead cyclist is another 400m away from the summit of the climb - as teh marshall at the side of the road said '..only another 400m to go' - I was cooked!!
